Most of the leaks are gone

Two of the three leaks are gone but the one in the headliner of the pilot house is still there. It drips about one drop every minute or two and we have tried everything. All of the antennas have been re-bedded twice. Now we have put a vinyl thick coating that you paint on, kind of like on trailer houses. Very irritating to try so many things and not get it fixed.

Then to top it off I drained the water out of the fuel filter and must have gotten some air in the line. The engine ran fine for a minute and stopped. Luckily I was still at the slip.

Life is hard.

Mr. Green,
I was very disappointed to read about the leaking problems you have experienced on your Legacy 32. We would be happy help you resolve these issues if you would contact us so we can make suggestions. Very often discovering the source of leaks can be a very elusive task. Since the hull, deck and pilot house are one piece solid fiberglass, it is very unusual to intrude upon the integrity of these structures. Our experience has been, in the rare reports of leaks from owners, was that owner installed accessories (e.g. the pilot house mounted spot light and antennas) are often the first place to look for the source of a leak particularly if they were not bedded properly. Sometimes on older boats, the Pilot House windows, opening ports and deck hatches may need to be re-bedded. Or maybe only a replacement sealing gasket is required. Also, on your particular model, the upper portion of her smoke stack is removed during shipping because of height restrictions. It is imperative that the upper stack component be bedded properly inside and out when reassembling. We usually recommend that the sealant used is not a permanent adhesive like 3M's 5200 because you may need to remove some components for servicing in the future. Of course, we are assuming that there was no previous accidental damages to any of the fiberglass structures.
Over the last quarter of a century, our staff and myself feel a commitment to our Legacy family that insures many years of pleasant cruising.

I love the Legacy 32. Such a beauty. I'm currently making the move from a pilothouse sailboat to a trawler. If you know of any of these for sale - please looks me up!

Thanks,

Simon
